2008 Singapore Grand Prix – First F1 Night Race

Singtel Singapore Grand Prix 2008

This weekend 26-28 Sep is the Singapore Grand Prix
Formula One race set to stage its inaugural event on 28 September 2008. To be staged in the Marina Bay area of Singapore. The first Formula One Grand Prix in Singapore will also be Formula One’s first night race.

Sporting Regulation, Article 29 comes into force in Bahrain and states that ‘Cars may not be refuelled after they have left the pit lane before the race.’ It means that, for the first time since the 1993 Australian Grand Prix, cars will start the race with enough fuel to go the distance. While there are all sorts of technical ramifications, it’s perhaps the sporting impact on pit stops that will be most visible…
We may just be catching our first glimpses of the drivers at work, but like all topflight sportsmen, today’s Formula One heroes never really step off the treadmill. The winter provides a perfect opportunity to improve fitness. So whilst the engineers are slogging it out perfecting their 2010 cars back at the factory, the drivers are busy ensuring they’ll be fit enough to drive them. Most teams rely on in-house physiotherapists to help devise training, and at Force India that duty falls to Balbir Singh, one time guru to multiple world champion Michael Schumacher. We caught up with Singh exclusively to learn more about his unique approach to fitness…
It’s an all-drivers affair for the official media sessions at Sakhir, with Thursday’s conference featuring no less than four world champions and Friday’s boasting some of the sport’s brightest up-and-coming talent. The line-up in full…
Not many drivers have been able to defend their title. Jenson Button’s bid to join that small but illustrious group starts this weekend in Bahrain. Just to add to the challenge, he will have to race against two drivers who’ve done it: Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso. And with the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Felipe Massa, Nico Rosberg and Mark Webber also chasing his crown, this season promises to be a mouth watering affair…
Coming the week before the 2010 season gets underway, the launch of the HRT team (formerly Campos) – and the announcement of second driver Karun Chandhok – was a very last-minute affair. Although he is yet to drive the car, and despite the mountain of work and obstacles still facing the team, it’s a dream come true for 26 year-old Chandhok, who had almost lost faith in realising his Formula One ambitions…

Accident in Malaysia Insurance Claim and Repair process

On Malaysia’s independent day 31 August, while I was driving back to Sekinchan a Malay driver hit my car from behind. Fortunately all the passengers did not injured.

While my car reached the 1st traffic light of Tanjong Karang. It was red light and I stopped as usual. When the green light on, I moved the car slowly and brek as the vehicle in front still not moving. Out of no where we felt a big bang from behind, when I get of my car I saw a small Kerisa knocked on to the rear of my car.  More >

Singapore Petrol Price History

Good News to all Singapore Drivers!!! Petrol price have reduced 2 times in a week :D
Lastest update Nov 21 : The petrol price have reduce to the price level of 2004. :)

I was trying to do research last night to find out the past history of petrol price in Singapore. I was not able to find the exact information I need from the internet. I do find the Crude Oil price chart which is on the right side bar. But I’m not able to obtain the history chart for Singapore petrol pump price.

I come across a interesting website petrol watch which monitor the change of pump price of all 4 brand of Singapore Petrol station. Caltex, Shell, Exxon Mobil and SPC. But without the trend chart for the petrol price. As a results I have to extracted all the update from the website to excel and plot the chart I want. I’m generous enough to share my hard work to anyone who may find this useful.

Malaysia ban petrol sales to foreign cars from 5/30

Malaysia take the extreme measure to ban petrol selling to foreign cars within 50km of the border. This is shocking new as to me. The ruling will take effect this Friday and the ban does not taking into the consideration of driver’s nationality. The rule to control the petrol subsidy should not affect any Malaysian at all. I believe there are many more Malaysian like me driving Singapore Registered Car. This ruling means I’ll not able to get petrol supply with 50km after I leave Singapore.

For the simply reason of not benefit subsidy to the foreigners shall base on the nationality and not the vehicle registered country. This is rather inflexible and unfair treatment.
Please remember those Malaysian drive Singapore car like myself do come back to vote in the election. And we are the one who decide who rule this country. Now all the border states except Perlis and Johor are under People Alliance. I wonder what is the intention

Toa Payoh Lorong 6 start ERP charge from April 7

As expected Land Transport Authority (LTA) planed to start charge ERP from April 6 2008.

ERP in Toapayoh or everywhere

Everyday I fetch my Niang Zi to work in Toapayoh Philips. I have found an alternative way from Tampines to Toapayoh to avoid the ERP gantry before the Toapayoh PIE Exit.

Refer to Google Map

I took the Tampines Ave 10 flyover to Kaki Bukit, turn to Airport Road which above the KPE and turn right to Upper Paya Lebar Road and Bartley Road, Braddell road and turn to Toapayoh Lorong 1. The stretch from Bartley Road to Toapayoh is without any traffic light which is almost like an express way. The time saving on the jam and the ERP charge of $1 make all the effect of waiting time at the Kaki Bukit and Upper Paya Lebar Road worth it.

This morning as usually when we exit from Braddell road. To my surprise there is one big ERP gantry after the exit. This is really ridiculous, what is the rational behind of collecting ERP for the road to residential area in the morning. Which government on earth are collecting $$ for entering residential area in the morning peak hour.

I do not see the point of ERP to control the traffic. I’m seeing this as a move to collect the $$ wherever there is a single convenience point to setup the ERP gantry to get the maximum returns. This is like a business mind to setup where the most traffic that can miss it. The traffic there is already a chaos in the morning where traffic from Bishan want to turn left while the traffic exit from Braddell road want to turn right. I will foresee more delay or accident when the driver try to insert the cash card in the last minute.

Bumper gap

I sent my Mitsubishi Lancer Sports for 10,000 km service today. I requested the service guy to look at the right hand side of bumper which drop about 1 cm from the rear light.

The mechanic told me this most likely cause by bump from behind, but it’s may not be visible from the surface. I did not tried very hard to insist this shall cover in the warranty. I had to wait for the call in the afternoon to see what is the next step to take.

True enough the mechanic called in the afternoon and confirm the damage was by bump from behind. And the repair cost is 160 and only can adjust it back to 90-95%. The work involved remove the plastic bumper and hit the bracket that support the bumper back to original condition. I’m not sure how serious inside, I decided to leave it as it. As this may not worth it as the gap is small and did not affect any part of the function. May be defer the repair to the next schedule service after 20,000 km.

I’m kind of give up in maintaining the external appearance of my Lanser, after the scratches from the both front doors when we get someone to force open the door. This is out of no choice as the spare key is in Singapore while the key locked in the boot of the car in Sekinchan, Selangor about 450 km aways from Singapore. :(
