Disappointed New Year Eve Show in Genting
0We got the ticket for Jacky Wu’s show on the new year eve in Genting.
On the day before the show we were still wondering whether to drive up to Genting or taking the public transport. Our plan is to drive back to Singapore the next day after the shows. After considering the fact that they will be more traffic to south school start on 2nd Jan. We decided to drive all the way up to Genting. This is my 1st drive to Genting, the drive is easier than expected.
We reached Genting around 11am and check-in by 1pm. We bought the ticket for the Indoor Theme Park only as we saw the queue is shorter in the in door compare to outdoor. After we try a few rides In Door we went for 4D Motion Master cinema. Some how after we exited from the cinema we turn left. There was 1 staff distributing lollipops near the gate to Out Door Theme Park, we took the lollipops from the staff and didn’t realized we actually got into the out door area…
We went ahead to take rides in the Outdoor Theme Pack.. until 6pm when outdoor closed then only we continue the fun at indoor. We actually save 50+ of the ticket price.
The Jacky Wu’s show was started 8pm we were expecting a variety show for the count down to 2008. However it’s turned out to be sub standard Jacky Wu’s concert.

http://www.genting.com.my/en/live_ent/2007/jacky_wu/default.htm
We were attracted to the Genting’s promotion as variety show in which is Jacky’s best area of talent. However may be Jacky Wu miss the concert too much and in fact turn this show to be his concert shows. All the rest of the performances are to inserted between clothes.
The songs are primary old and classic song, most of them never heard before. This become a boring and disappointed show to us.
And the biggest surprise is the show in fact ended around 10:30pm instead of the countdown to 2008. Later we tried to watch the fireworks for the new year at the car push area of Genting Hotel. However we managed to make it to the lobby of Genting Hotel only and not able to go out as too many ppl jammed at the door. It ended up we can only witness the low fireworks only. The fireworks last for 10 minutes. Then we get into Casino to try our lucks. We manage to make even after 3 hours.
Finish off the to do list of 2007
0There a fews tasks listed in the to do list for 2007 have completed by today.
- Plan for the 2008 count down program with Niang Zi- Count down at Genting Highland. At 1st we were not able to book the room itself. Then we wanted to book for Fish Leong concert on 29 December. We could not get the desired seat and give up. Finally I tried to book to package with Jacky Wu’s show in Arena of Star and successful secured the deal
- Find a suitable domain name to host this blog – After days of searching and comparing the price and value of domain name registry.. and I managed to register kcgce.com as the domain name for this blog. I’m using netfirms.com service which is the lowest cost for the .com domain name. The activation is instantly and allow 48 hours to change any domain name in case you make a mistake or find a better name.
- See the dentist to clean my teeth – My company’s dental benefit for this year have to claim by end of the year. I have not taking any action in the past to make appointment with dentist, until this evening when I tried to make appointment and notice most of the dentist already fully booked until 31 December. I have no choice but search for the internet can call the dentist 1 by 1. Until 5 calls to a dentist near by, the reception mention the same thing as fully booked. But I’m trying my luck to ask whether tonight is still available, then she said I can come and wait for my turn before it closed at 8:30pm. And finally I have my shining teeth again.

After past 11pm the people was too crowded and we decided to leave. As the way to MRT was blocked. We have not choice but take the under pass to the Lucky Plaza side, and waited for the 1st double decker bus to get out of the crowd. We boarded SBS transit #111 SBS 9477A . We managed to secure the front seat of the upper deck.

Bumper gap
1I sent my Mitsubishi Lancer Sports for 10,000 km service today. I requested the service guy to look at the right hand side of bumper which drop about 1 cm from the rear light.
The mechanic told me this most likely cause by bump from behind, but it’s may not be visible from the surface. I did not tried very hard to insist this shall cover in the warranty. I had to wait for the call in the afternoon to see what is the next step to take.
True enough the mechanic called in the afternoon and confirm the damage was by bump from behind. And the repair cost is 160 and only can adjust it back to 90-95%. The work involved remove the plastic bumper and hit the bracket that support the bumper back to original condition. I’m not sure how serious inside, I decided to leave it as it. As this may not worth it as the gap is small and did not affect any part of the function. May be defer the repair to the next schedule service after 20,000 km.
I’m kind of give up in maintaining the external appearance of my Lanser, after the scratches from the both front doors when we get someone to force open the door. This is out of no choice as the spare key is in Singapore while the key locked in the boot of the car in Sekinchan, Selangor about 450 km aways from Singapore.
A better Blog Advertisment Network – Advertlets.com
2I have find a better Blog Advertisement Network thru forum and fellow bloggers who have shared about this Avert Network for Malaysian and Singaporean bloggers.
![]()
To enroll to Advertlets is pretty easy as all you need is the website URLs and email to confirm the registration email. Advertlets GUI is easy to follow and navigate to the code page is straight forward. The sample placement of the blog is useful for the beginner is mix and match the different size in the blog. All in all it just took me 15 minutes to see the results of my ads.
I have placed a banner in the blog’s header and another vertical ads in the left side bar. I love the AJAX technology use in the ads unit as the reader can participate the poll or interact with the ads without leaving my own page.
I agreed with higher precision of location base advertisement can be achieved by applying the geolocation of the IP address. I’ll wonder whether this geolocation will work perfectly behind the proxy server. Let’s observe this after I connect to office network tomorrow.
What I would like to see in Advertlets is the reporting function and enhancement of statistic to allow more analysis as to drill down to which blog is performing better.
Nevertheless the overall I’m very happy with this alternative to AdSense. As a results all the google ads unit have been removed.

0The Beijing Olympic Torch Relay will take place in KL on April 21, 2008. Each torchbearers will run a distance of 250 meters, within a time of 2.5 minutes, making a total distance covered by the 80 torchbearers to be 20 km.
“The Olympic Torch Relay in Kuala Lumpur will also publicize the Visit Malaysia Year Campaign, which has been extended to August 31, 2008, through the live TV coverage of the Relay throughout the world,” he added.
This will be the second time that Malaysia hosts this run, the first being during the run-up to Tokyo Games in 1964, according to Imran Ja’afar, president of the Olympic Council of Malaysia.
It will begin from Merdeka (Independent) Square, passing Merdeka Stadium, and through various places including KL Tower and KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center), he said.
After KL, the torch relay will move to Jakarta, capital of Indonesia.
The relay will have the longest route in the Olympic Torch Relay history, involving 21,880 torchbearers who will cover a total distance of 137,000 km in 130 days.
The relay will begin on March 25, 2008 with the lighting of the flame at Olympia, followed by a one-week journey to Athens, where Greek Olympic Committee passes the torch to a representative of China on March 30, 2008.
From Beijing, the relay winds across Asia, Europe, America, Africa, Oceania, and then back to Asia and China before the torch ignites the cauldron at the opening ceremony on August 8, 2008.
The Olympic Torch Relay, themed “Journey of Harmony” and sloganized as “Light the Passion Share the Dream”, will cover 21 cities.
One of the highlights of this relay will be the ascent of the Olympic Flame to the highest peak in the world, Mt. Qomolangma.

Mini BBQ in Bedok Reservoir Park
0Our Landlord started serials of unreasonable restriction to us in the name of want to sell the 5 room HDB flat we rented.
First restricted tenant do not wash and hang clothes in the weekend when viewing normally take place. She started to push all the clothes to the end of balcony.
Now for no reason she wanted to clear the freezer section of fridge and theaten to throw away the food..
We have couple of food left over from previous BBQ in August, we decided to clear all of them by ourselves. We have a mini BBQ pit which can last 2 hours.
We brought all the food to the Bedok Reservoir and find the suitable place to start the fire. But the bad thing was the fire is too weak and the food still not yet defrooze. It took us very long time but still have food left over. This is a big different compare to previous BBQ.
At the end we still went to the coffee shop near by to eat some more. Sigh..
Anything and Whatever for free
0I overheard from the Class 95 FM that they are distributing cartons of can drinks Anything and Whatever for free in Bishan Stadium. It was canceled on Wednesday due to raining and rescheduled to Thursday 6-7pm. This is their Car Decal Giveaway promotion.
I did not plan for this, and it happens that day I was able to leave the work earlier and since my daily routine trip will need to fetch my Niang Zi working in Toapayoh. Which is very near to Bishan. I decided to make a trip to Bishan.
Over the radio the DJ announced if anyone show them DBS or POSB credit card will get additional carton of Anything and Whatever for free. But I do not have any credit card with both of the bank. While we were queuing waiting for our turn at the Bishan Stadium carpark, I knew Niang Zi have a DBS ATM card, I asked her to show the card with DBS logo only, later we decided to show them the reverse side of the card.
By the time of my turn, I stopped the car and notice they already have 2 cartons ready to load in my car boot. I just showed them briefly the back side of the card. I believe they don’t really care with the card, all they want was to finish everything as soon as possible.
On the next day, Niangzi what to bring 1 carton of the can drinks to office as we cannot finish all by ourselves. After her trouble to bring the 24 cans to the office. Her boss did not even appreciated this yet criticize this is dishonest act.
This kinds of boss is really useless.
Anything and Whatever can drinks have very interesting TV commercial, you can find out here http://anything.com.sg/
david mcclelland’s needs-based motivational model
0david mcclelland
david c mcclelland’s motivational needs theory
American David Clarence McClelland (1917-98) achieved his doctorate in psychology at Yale in 1941 and became professor at Wesleyan University. He then taught and lectured, including a spell at Harvard from 1956, where with colleagues for twenty years he studied particularly motivation and the achievement need. He began his McBer consultancy in 1963, helping industry assess and train staff, and later taught at Boston University, from 1987 until his death. McClelland is chiefly known for his work on achievement motivation, but his research interests extended to personality and consciousness. David McClelland pioneered workplace motivational thinking, developing achievement-based motivational theory and models, and promoted improvements in employee assessment methods, advocating competency-based assessments and tests, arguing them to be better than traditional IQ and personality-based tests. His ideas have since been widely adopted in many organisations, and relate closely to the theory of Frederick Herzberg.
David McClelland is most noted for describing three types of motivational need, which he identified in his 1988 book, Human Motivation:
- achievement motivation (n-ach)
- authority/power motivation (n-pow)
- affiliation motivation (n-affil)
david mcclelland’s needs-based motivational model
These needs are found to varying degrees in all workers and managers, and this mix of motivational needs characterises a person’s or manager’s style and behaviour, both in terms of being motivated, and in the management and motivation others.
the need for achievement (n-ach)
The n-ach person is ‘achievement motivated’ and therefore seeks achievement, attainment of realistic but challenging goals, and advancement in the job. There is a strong need for feedback as to achievement and progress, and a need for a sense of accomplishment.
the need for authority and power (n-pow)
The n-pow person is ‘authority motivated’. This driver produces a need to be influential, effective and to make an impact. There is a strong need to lead and for their ideas to prevail. There is also motivation and need towards increasing personal status and prestige.
the need for affiliation (n-affil)
The n-affil person is ‘affiliation motivated’, and has a need for friendly relationships and is motivated towards interaction with other people. The affiliation driver produces motivation and need to be liked and held in popular regard. These people are team players.
McClelland said that most people possess and exhibit a combination of these characteristics. Some people exhibit a strong bias to a particular motivational need, and this motivational or needs ‘mix’ consequently affects their behaviour and working/managing style. Mcclelland suggested that a strong n-affil ‘affiliation-motivation’ undermines a manager’s objectivity, because of their need to be liked, and that this affects a manager’s decision-making capability. A strong n-pow ‘authority-motivation’ will produce a determined work ethic and commitment to the organisation, and while n-pow people are attracted to the leadership role, they may not possess the required flexibility and people-centred skills. McClelland argues that n-ach people with strong ‘achievement motivation’ make the best leaders, although there can be a tendency to demand too much of their staff in the belief that they are all similarly and highly achievement-focused and results driven, which of course most people are not.
McClelland’s particular fascination was for achievement motivation, and this laboratory experiment illustrates one aspect of his theory about the affect of achievement on people’s motivation. McClelland asserted via this experiment that while most people do not possess a strong achievement-based motivation, those who do, display a consistent behaviour in setting goals:
Volunteers were asked to throw rings over pegs rather like the fairground game; no distance was stipulated, and most people seemed to throw from arbitrary, random distances, sometimes close, sometimes farther away. However a small group of volunteers, whom McClelland suggested were strongly achievement-motivated, took some care to measure and test distances to produce an ideal challenge – not too easy, and not impossible. Interestingly a parallel exists in biology, known as the ‘overload principle’, which is commonly applied to fitness and exercising, ie., in order to develop fitness and/or strength the exercise must be sufficiently demanding to increase existing levels, but not so demanding as to cause damage or strain. McClelland identified the same need for a ‘balanced challenge’ in the approach of achievement-motivated people.
McClelland contrasted achievement-motivated people with gamblers, and dispelled a common pre-conception that n-ach ‘achievement-motivated’ people are big risk takers. On the contrary – typically, achievement-motivated individuals set goals which they can influence with their effort and ability, and as such the goal is considered to be achievable. This determined results-driven approach is almost invariably present in the character make-up of all successful business people and entrepreneurs.
McClelland suggested other characteristics and attitudes of achievement-motivated people:
- achievement is more important than material or financial reward.
- achieving the aim or task gives greater personal satisfaction than receiving praise or recognition.
- financial reward is regarded as a measurement of success, not an end in itself.
- security is not prime motivator, nor is status.
- feedback is essential, because it enables measurement of success, not for reasons of praise or recognition (the implication here is that feedback must be reliable, quantifiable and factual).
- achievement-motivated people constantly seek improvements and ways of doing things better.
- achievement-motivated people will logically favour jobs and responsibilities that naturally satisfy their needs, ie offer flexibility and opportunity to set and achieve goals, eg., sales and business management, and entrepreneurial roles.
McClelland firmly believed that achievement-motivated people are generally the ones who make things happen and get results, and that this extends to getting results through the organisation of other people and resources, although as stated earlier, they often demand too much of their staff because they prioritise achieving the goal above the many varied interests and needs of their people.
Interesting comparisons and relationships can be drawn between McClelland’s motivation types, and the characteristics defined in other behavioural models
